Reptile Project

Your Reptile Project must be submitted electronically to Mr. Murray by noon on Friday 3/23. Can be turned in on a USB drive, a burned CD-R, or by e-mail at smurray@paulding.k12.ga.us or murray.scienceteacher@gmail.com.
The project must include the following.

    2. Common name of reptile:  (4 points)
    3. Order: (4 points)
    4. Family: (4 points)
    5. Scientific name of reptile: (8 points = 4 name + 4 formatting)
    6. Size of animal: (4 points)
    7. Habitat (locations and biomes): (4 points)
    8. Diet:(4 points)
    9. Feeding habits: (4 points)
    10. Locomotion: (4 points)
    11. Reproduction: (4 points)
    12. Threats: (4 points)
    13. Conservation status: (4 points)
    14. Estimated Number in the Wild:(4 points)
    15. Efforts to preserve them: (4 points)
    16. 4 original paragraphs about the topics above or your choice of topics covering your animal: (20 points)

Arthropod Profile

Work alone or in pairs (2 people) to create a profile of an arthropod subphylum, class, or order. Use powerpoint to create a presentation with ten slides (categories below). Files are due on Friday 2/3/2012 and will be presented on Monday 2/6/2012. Files may be turned in on a flash drive or burned CD. You may turn in work early but not late.


Remember:
  • Your work should be your own. No copying and pasting.
  • Keep your slides short, simple, and interesting.
  • If you use images, make sure they are legally available for use. ("Terms of Use" or "Copyright")
  • Keep a list of websites used for your works cited page. 
Slides:
  1. Title page (Category and Common names)
  2. 4 animals in this category
  3. Feeding - How and what do they eat?
  4. Respiration - How do they exchange gases w/the environment? -AND- Circulation - Do they have blood? How does it move?
  5. Excretion - How do they excrete waste? What is their waste product?
  6. Response - How do they respond to stimuli? (long term? short term?)
  7. Movement - How do they move themselves around?
  8. Reproduction - How do they create offspring?
  9. 3 Interesting facts (not covered above)
  10. Works cited: Which sites did you use? not "google" or wikipedia Use http://www.easybib.com/ to create your citations.

C block - Week of 11/28

This week, we dissect frogs, test on Amphibians and begin our study of reptiles and birds.

3rd period - Week of 11/28

This week, we are finishing our study of Annelids (segmented worms). Students have a study guide/review sheet, and notes are available for review here.

The test on annelids is scheduled for Monday, 12/5, so be sure to study over the weekend.

C block week of 11/14

Progress reports were distributed last Friday 11/11/11). Counting this week, we have 5 weeks remaining before the end of the semester. Be sure your student is attending recovery sessions to bring their grade up to passing before December 7.

Recovery Schedule:
  • Afternoons
    • Monday 3:30 - 4:15
    • Tuesday 3:30 - 4:15
  • Morning
    • Wednesday 8:00 - 8:30
We are hurtling toward the end of the semester. This week, we will review fish, dissect perch and dogfish head sharks, and test over fish. Friday will be devoted to dissections that students have missed due to absences. Students who have no dissections to make up will work on questions about amphibians.

3rd period week of 11/14

This week, we conclude our study of flatworms, phylum Platyhelminthes, and move on to segmented worms, phylum Annelida.
  • Disease-causing worm projects were due last Friday (11/11/11). We are accepting late projects at the cost of 10 points per day after the due date.
  • Progress reports were distributed last Friday as well. Counting this week, we have 5 weeks remaining before the end of the semester. Be sure your student is attending recovery sessions to bring their grade up to passing before December 7.

The study of Annelida will include
  • notes on marine worms, earthworms, and leeches
  • body plan worksheets
  • earthworm dissection (scheduled Friday 11/18)
  • a study guide (handed out on Monday 11/14)
  • a test over the entire phylum
